Bat and Ball... so far so good

Bat and Ball Junior Cricket Club, Budapest’s first junior cricket club, started on 8th May 2010, offering one session per week alongside ‘Buda Juniors International Football Club’ trainings.
In Autumn 2010 the club expanded to add programs at Britannica International School and the British International School, and by Spring 2011 more than 100 children had participated in our training sessions.
In February 2011 the Bat and Ball team came fourth in their first tournament - the II Hungary Primary Schools Indoor Cricket Championship, which was held in Szolnok (report).
During the summer of 2011 several Bat and Ball juniors excelled in their first adult cricket matches both here and in the UK; one Bat and Ball girl made her debut for the Hungarian Women’s Cricket Team; a Bat and Ball boy won a junior cricket skills competition at Lords; and the majority of our players discovered the magical fun that cricket is to play.
At the end of the summer, on Sunday 18th September 2011 (a date which will long be remembered and celebrated by Bat and Ball), we won our first tournament - the HCA Junior T10! (report and stats + photo gallery)
In February 2012 Bat and Ball entered two teams in the III Hungary Primary Schools Indoor Cricket Championship, which was held in Szolnok - the Drivers came second, while the All-rounders finished joint seventh (report)
In June 2012 the very first International Schools Cricket Tournament was held at AISB, sponsored by Capital Growth Solutions. Over 50 kids played in the matches (details + cards + photos)
As 2012 passes, Bat and Ball continues to grow and is well on the way to its longer-term goal of playing a significant role in establishing cricket as a familiar sport to the youth of Budapest and Hungary - we had two funtastic Summer Camps and look forward to many more!

Program Aims

Our major aim is to provide organised cricket trainings to beginner and experienced junior cricketers, girls and boys alike. The focus is on having fun whilst learning and developing cricketing skills.
Hosting and attending junior competitions/tournaments will undoubtedly become a regular part of the Bat and Ball life, now that the numbers of junior cricketers throughout Hungary continues to increase. On 27 February 2011 we participated in our first tournament, the II. Hungary Primary Schools Indoor Cricket Championships, winning 3 games and losing 2 to finish in 4th place. On 18 September 2011 we will participate in a national 11-a-side, real-ball tournament at the new GB Oval in Szodliget. Spring 2012 looks set to bring the first ‘international’ Bat and Ball tour.

The Future

Ultimately, we aim to train at purpose-built cricket facilities, continuing to offer several groups according to both age and cricketing experience/ability.
The Hungarian Cricket Association will develop a National Junior Cricket League, in which Bat and Ball will participate.
Players will have the opportunity to represent the Hungarian Junior Cricket Team and the Hungarian Girls Cricket Team, each of which is expected to have several fixtures each year, both at home and abroad.
